Yesterday, we had the opportunity to ride with the motorcycle escort that moved the Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall from Urbana to Marysville. Not only was it my first "long" trip, but it was my first group ride and for such a sobering cause. What a humbling experience to see all the people lining the streets, holding flags, often standing with their hats over their hearts to honor those that gave their lives for our freedom. I felt so privileged to be a part of it. This is a small clip as the front of the line was moving out. It really doesn't do it justice, nor does it come close to showing how many bikes were there (I didn't get the camera out until the beginning sections were well on their way). It was cool as we were waiting, but when everyone got on their bikes and started them up, well, it was impressive.
The traveling Wall is a 3/5 scale of the Vietnam Memorial in Washington DC, it stands six feet tall at the center and covers almost 300 feet from end to end. You can read more about it
here.
You can view the wall this week at the Marysville fairgrounds. We plan to take the kids over Friday morning to see it.
The Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall will be at the Union County Fairgrounds, Marysville OH beginning 11 September 2008, with an opening ceremony at 7:00 pm on the 11th. Open for viewing 24/7 until the closing ceremony on 14th September 2008 at 5:00 pm.
P.S. Don't forget to fly your flag on 9/11.
