Folksongs and Composer Study

Each term we learn a folksong, listening to it about once a week or so. This term I've chosen This Land Is Your Land as sung by Pete Seeger. I just love the rich and varied music that I'm able to expose the kids to through this method. And as is the case, one thing led to another and I used this song to teach a little geography along the way.

Similarly, each term we study a composer. We are listening to Le Carnaval des Animaux (The Carnival of the Animals) by the French Romantic composer Camille Saint-Saƫns (Sa*n-SOH*N). I found this performance with Sir Roger Moore reading the poems of Ogden Nash at the beginning of each piece. They are amazing and the girls love them. I've even gone so far as to add the poems to our memory work.

Listen to the introduction/lion here:
His paws, which look so velvety,
Aren't only there for show.
So if he asks you round for tea,
It's wiser not to go.

The girls really enjoyed The Aquarium this morning. This being their favorite to watch and listen to: The Aquarium.
