Still Dreaming of Disney World

Madison made this picture at school. Let us analyze this one, shall we?

First: Please note who is in the picture. First there is Charlie, he's the little one in front. Makes sense. Then in the middle row is Maya, Makenna, Steve and Me. Sounds good. Then you may ask, who is that on the top in the back row? The mysterious head floating above the entire family. Well, isn't that obvious? It's (sing with me now) M-I-C--K-E-Y--M-O-U-S-E.

Second: I couldn't help but notice that Madison did not include herself. Wanna know why? That should also be obvious. She's the princess at Disney Land.

So. What does all of this mean? It means, that even while at school, where she should be focused on the pursuit of higher learning, she's still just daydreaming of Disney World. Just like she did all summer.

Wow. Two whole hours.

Maya's off to school. Now I have two, count them, TWO whole hours just with Charlie. (On Mondays and every other Wednesdays, that is.) What ever will we do?

Maya's M's

We are making progress on this never ending basement project. We painted an entire wall with chalkboard paint, which the girls love! Madison draws elaborate pictures, Steve and Makenna practice math problems, while Maya writes M's everywhere. She's getting very good at them and will even throw in an "A", "Y", and "A" for good measure. Looks like she will be writing her name before school starts! YEA!

Last Day of School

Makenna enjoyed her last day of school. She had a great year with Mrs. Roman, her teacher, and I suspect we'll meet up with her again in the future. For now she's glad to be home for the summer. I think she spent the year reluctantly going off to school with the suspicion that things were happening at home without her.

Goodbye Preschool, Hello Kindergarten

Madison "graduated" from preschool last week. She suddenly seems so grown up. I'll be sending her to Kindergarten while my sister is sending her oldest daughter to College. While this stage is hard with the temper tantrums and all the hoopla over learning the alphabet (Kindergarten, not College) -- I know that the next stage of child rearing will offer its own set of worries and challenges, as will the one after that. I'm not ready to send Number Two off to the big world of Elementary School, just as I'm sure my sister is not ready to send hers off into the big world of Life. I guess at some point we just have to trust that their Angels will protect them and they'll always come back home in the end (but, you know, maybe just to visit).
