The beginning of this sermon is 15 minutes of entirely quoted scripture. . . I've never heard anything like this. I'd like to write this off and say that John Piper is just gifted in some supernatural way. But honestly, if we say that Christ is our Lord, if we believe in the power of the scriptures, we should be immersed in God's word in such a way that memorization is a part of our everyday life. Memorization has not traditionally been a strength of mine (remember Speech Meet? I choked every time!). However, it gets easier as I work at it. And as the passage takes root in my every day life I become more convinced of the need to keep going and I desire more. I wish I started a long time ago. How much of my time have I wasted on lesser pursuits?
