Taking a Break for Thanksgiving

We have scheduled the week off for Thanksgiving. But what does a week “off” from homeschooling look like? Well, it’s called Unschooling. We’re all “unschoolers” in one way or another. What parent doesn’t take advantage of life’s opportunity to teach a lesson, or use their child’s chance curiosity to fuel a spontaneous interest which leads to a full blown passion—and that’s when the best learning occurs spurred by the child’s enthusiasm, right? So this week, we’re unschoolers. I will “let them alone” with books about pilgrims and the first Thanksgiving, with a blank book of their own to create their Thanksgiving story, with time to play in their hibernating garden bed, and time to set the tables, and help prepare our Thanksgiving meal. I will let them alone to read, play, write, create, sing, dance, and learn. Shhhh. It’ll be our little secret. What they don’t know won’t hurt them.
