We finally got our garden preparations finished for next spring. We moved the blackberry bush, tilled in manure, covered with a layer of straw, uh, hay, uh, I mean straw. We also started our compost pile. So now we wait. In the spring we'll do another round of tilling, adding in topsoil and peat moss. It doesn't look like much now but eventually the beds will form a perimeter around the fence line and extend into the center of the yard. In the center we're planning a circular children's garden (with a vine covered teepee and sunflowers). We’re planning for a few varieties of tomatoes, lots of lettuces, carrots, pumpkins, peppers and onion. The kids are staking out their space and making plans from the seed catalogs. I still haven't figured out how best to maintain the weeds. But we'll figure it out as we go.
