fifty famous stories

Fifty Famous Stories is on the book list for Year 1 on Ambleside Online, the website that we use to structure our Charlotte Mason education that we use with the kids. Charlie, my six-year-old is working through this book. I read, he tells back what he remembers. The Greek and Roman episode make great reading for boys, filled with action, engaging, and short. The line illustrations remind me of old plate illustrations.

I started using Ambleside with Makenna, and the younger girls in their turn, 5 years ago and his little book was on my list to track down. How pleased I was to find this old printing from a box of books my grandpa gave me when I was a teenager. We love reading from the yellowed pages and it's fragile state adds to the awe and care the kids use in handling it.
