Choosing Purposeful Simplicity

"Holy Fire, burn away, anything that is not of You, and is of me. I want more of You, and less of me." --Jeremy Camp
I missed the months of May and June with my posts on giving something up for the month. But I gave up walking for June so I figure that counts, right?

Now back on my feet (with a limp, but still!), I'm getting serious about doing some major purging! I've had lots of time to think about all the stuff that we accumulate and this huge house that we maintain. And I realize that when one little thing goes (like your left foot) that keeping up with it all becomes a major stress and nearly impossible at times (just look at my garden for starters). Oh, what distractions from worshiping the Sovereign God I've willingly placed in my path. What meaningless things I've focused on that have kept me running crazy instead of being quiet before the Creator of the Universe and have kept the focus on me rather than on Him.

You might think me queer--we've already turned away from a lot of the "stuff" that the culture embraces. Don't misunderstand me, these things aren't bad in and off themselves, but when they turn your focus from Him and place it on you, then they need to be re-considered and questioned. My heart's cry these last few weeks is that God would open my eyes to what else I'm clinging to that I've made an idol. You strike one down and another appears before you. We have much to do. So there may be big changes ahead for the Krumms. I don't know what exactly, we're still searching and praying. But we're being stirred to be sure.
But now, thus says the LORD, your Creator, O Jacob, And He who formed you, O Israel, "Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name; you are Mine! "When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they will not overflow you When you walk through the fire, you will not be scorched, Nor will the flame burn you. -Isaiah 43:1-2
