BARF

We started the dogs on a raw diet (called BARF for Biologically Appropriate Raw Food or Bones and Raw Food). The cost is less per pound and they eat slower, so less risk with bloat. Their bodies use nearly all of what they consume so there is significantly less poo. They only eat once a day with an occasional fasting day. And the bones keep them busy and keep the teeth clean (important that these are raw, never cooked bones).

This is one of Radar's meals (he got a bonus left over hamburger that Charlie wouldn't eat for lunch). We soak some of the meat in apple cider vinegar because it alone has most of the vitamins they need. We buy a variety of meats, depending on the best price, so the actual cut and type of meat is different everyday. We occasionally give a raw egg but we learned the hard way to limit those to ONE per dog.

Today the danes will get their own fryer chicken, raw of course. It's nice to be a dog at the Krumm house!

Note: they really, really, really didn't like the fish (I can't blame them, it smelled terrible!). We'll try again this summer with something a little fresher and see what happens.

WOW!!! I don't know what to say. I guess all natural is probably better, back to they way they most likely were intended to eat. I bet they are happy. :)
I hope they don't get the taste for blood! (just kidding with that remark)
