The home is mankind's first and most basic school. Home-centered education is as old as civilization itself, commencing long before state schools were organized or even conceived. Throughout much of American history, the primary center of instruction was the family. Parents were frequently the sole instructors for their offspring. The home is an ideal environment for fostering creativity, inquiry and practical learning . . . the child is given a chance to explore and discover. He participates in active learning—the doing. He can experience learning—not just read or hear about it. He learns how to learn.
