Fall Term, Week Three, Day One
Well, week three is underway. Today was a bit crazy. While we all believed Charlie to be playing with his toys, he was in the bath room flooding the sink with water. (Remember what I said before? If you don't watch him every single second you deserve whatever it is he's going to do to you!). Needless to say school went well into the afternoon. The reading selections are getting a bit longer and I pushed the kids a little harder. But how wonderful is it to be able to see they've reached their limits and send them outside to take a lap around the block on their bikes or run around in the back yard in their bare feet? If I feel a twinge of panic about stopping early or leaving a few readings until tomorrow, I remember that "education is a life" and count up all the things that I've taught them that weren't planned: Madison got a lesson in blends on the white board when she asked how to spell her brother's name; Maya asked after dinner how to make all the numbers to 20 so she could practice them; and Makenna, well, she has questions all day long, but today she got out an art book and began teaching herself how to use shading in her sketches. Right now the girls are in bed writing stories and Madison is practicing sounding out words to write her own sentences. Now, that wasn’t on the schedule for 8:30pm—but I'll take it!
